How to Fix Windows Errors That Appear in Your Startup

Error messages pop up, your computer won't respond, and you see the blue screen of death. If one or all of these things are happening to you, you probably have no idea where to begin fixing your computer. But,
you can easily get your feet wet with some simple, yet important, steps to keeping your system running smoothly.
First Fix Windows Startup Errors
When a computer starts up, many different programs are launched. The more programs that are set to launch upon startup, the harder your computer is working just to turn itself on. Which programs these are is controlled by you. To investigate which programs are set to launch upon start up and edit this list, use the System Configuration Utility.
To access this list:
- Go to your start button and click on Run.
- In the box that opens, type msconfig and press enter.
- In the window that opens next, click on the Startup tab.
- Here you will see a list of all of the programs that start in the Windows registry. Eliminating even one or two of these can eliminate startup errors.
Then Fix Errors in Windows
Windows errors can vary from the irritating to the harmful and destructive. Conflicting programs or simply running too many programs at the same time can cause errors. Being mindful of what you are asking your computer to do is important. If you are running thirty or more web pages, two word documents and a spreadsheet; you might just be asking too much of your computer.
If your computer is giving you errors when running very few applications, you may want to try defragmenting the hard drive. Running your computer's disk defragmenter is like having a personal assistant come in and reorganize all of your hard copy paperwork. Allowing your computer to take the time to reorganize all of its files and folders and bits and pieces will improve its runtime speed and lessen errors.
To access your system's defragmenter:
- Go to the start button and highlight "All Programs".
- From there, locate the "Accessories" tab and then find "System Tools".
- After running the defragmenter, you may want to set your computer up with a cleaning schedule.
- Look for "Scheduled Tasks" under the "System Tools" tab.
- It is here that you can set your computer to clean itself at regular intervals (preferably while you are asleep or not in the office).
